Travel Advisory
UPDATE: Effective October 1, 2024, all visitors to Zanzibar (excluding residents) must have mandatory Inbound Travel Insurance.
Starting October 1, 2024, all visitors entering the island of Zanzibar, except residents, will need a US$44 travel insurance policy in addition to the Tanzania e-Visa.
“We would like to inform all foreigners planning to visit the beautiful island of Zanzibar through the seaport or airport that, effective October 1, 2024, it will be mandatory for all foreigners to possess valid Inbound Travel Insurance, which will provide coverage for the duration of their stay (up to 92 days)”, announces the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
Zanzibar authorities say the requirement is being implemented to “ensure the safety and well-being of all foreigners and mitigate any possible risk pertaining to their travel into the island. This policy provides comprehensive coverage for various emergencies including repatriation, evacuation, and other related contingencies”.
Referring to official sources such as the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs is crucial for the most up-to-date and accurate travel advisory information. Travel advisories provide U.S. citizens with information about the safety and security of traveling to specific countries or regions.
As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, the general travel advisory levels provided by the U.S. Department of State include:
Level 1 - Exercise Normal Precautions: This level indicates no significant safety and security concerns. Travelers should exercise standard precautions.
Level 2 - Exercise Increased Caution: This level suggests that there might be some risks to your safety and security, and travelers should exercise increased caution.
Level 3 - Reconsider Travel: This level advises travelers to reconsider their trip due to severe risks to safety and security.
Level 4 - Do Not Travel: This level advises against travel to the specified country or region due to very high risks.
The advisory levels can vary by region within a country and may change based on evolving situations. It's essential to check the official website of the U.S. Department of State for the most current travel advisories, country-specific information, and any travel restrictions or requirements.
Always stay informed about the latest developments and consider health and safety conditions, entry requirements, and local regulations when traveling.
